On Saturday 26 June, Mel Read, former MEP, officially opened the Women’s Aid Leicestershire reflection garden in Abbey Park, Leicester.

The event was attended by Vice Chair of Leicestershire County Council Dr Kevin Feltham, Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews, former Police and Crime Commissioner Lord Willy Bach, several Leicester City Councillors, Women’s Aid Leicestershire staff, Trustees and supporters.

Following a speech by Zabin Chauhan, Chair of the Board of Trustees, Mel Read said a few words of support before cutting the ribbon and officially opening the garden.

The garden is situated opposite the boating lake in Abbey Park and includes a bench with a plaque to share the local domestic abuse helpline number. Anyone who has been affected by domestic abuse is invited to use the garden as a place of peace and reflection.
